There’s no substitute for science

The writer makes his case against fracking (“Kern should follow suit,” March 25) and attributes this long-held process, used in Kern County for decades, as the cause of a recent Los Angeles earthquake. He cites a joint study by such radical environmental groups as Earth First, Clean Water Action (of which he is a member) and the Center for Biological Diversity on the website shakyground.org. There we find a lack of scientific study or even competent scientific writing. Most of the references center on one author, newspaper articles, National Public Radio broadcasts and a smattering of official papers and proposed regulations.
