Krier calls for Taft to rally behind oil industry

With another attempt to impose a severance tax underway in the California Senate and calls increasing limits or an outright ban on fracking, the Kern County’s oil industry and other businesses seem to be trying to fend off new regulations all the time.

So Taft City Councilman Orchel Krier wants to rally support for the industry in Taft next month.

Krier said he has seen the affects of increasing regulations in the business at his Tumbleweed Restaurant in Derby Acres and fears it will get worse.

“This is only the beginning,” Krier said. “It’s going to affect all of California.”

He wants to get people together in May at the Oilworker Monument to call for more support for the oil industry.

He’s already got supporters.

Mayor Paul Linder said Wednesday he’s behind it 100 percent.
